SoCS / August writing ~Define yourself #SoCS #Augustwriting

0

Before you step out unto this day

Pause to reflect on your overstuffed ways

An agenda for others that clutters your mind

Your own needs ignored in this unquestioned grind

No time to breathe in your malnourished space

Instead enabling others in an endless rat-race

Now, stop for a moment to defend yourself

A majority of one acceptably selfish

This change in behavior sprouts from down deep

First realizing your worth is strictly for keeps

Prioritize your heart in wanting more

Start embracing your desires as things to fight for

100WW ~ Hot Air #100ww

“Whooosh” The flame continued to shoot up into the open air of the balloon as Kelly looked over the basket. The world below her slowly sank away as the clouds above started to get closer. She was finally at peace up here in the sky. “You ok?” Jim asked as he lowered the flame, just a bit. “Oh, yeah.” Kelly muttered. She was exhausted, it had been another night of running away from the police.
“Where will we go?” Kelly asked Jim, who stared at her speechless. The man who knew it all who had finally run out of answers.

Some of earth’s animals were sucked out into space
Aliens from Mars were trying to create a new race
They were attempting to co-mingle genes from all different beasts
Hoping for a monster that would conquer worlds with ease
Not knowing the breeds on which they would tinker
Mixed a stink bug with skunk breeding one super-stinker
Luckily, the aliens gave up on their plan
The smell in their ship forced them back to their homeland

The familiar opening chords started out into the air and Steve felt himself back in time. He was no longer a forty- three old accountant with thinning hair. Instead he was seventeen and sprouting a mullet. The band was jamming out his personal favorite tune as he and his buddies rocked in their nosebleed seats. Nothing mattered outside these concert walls. Life in its current simplicity surrounded Steve, his pals and the music they loved. The song ended, returning Steve.  His sixteen year old son next to him enjoying the music of this new band he had discovered.

100WW~ Watching #100ww

1

Bird watching was always assumed to be dull by Doug Miller. Then one day after retiring from his stroke-inducing job of forty years, Doug decided to try a new hobby. He bought an inexpensive pair of binoculars and a reference book on birds. He headed into the woods and starting observing these animals fly around him. Doug felt all the leftover pressures of being a corporate executive slowly melt away as he watched these aviary beauties in their own environment. He was also totally unaware that he too was being watched. Something enjoyed watching humans as well, simply to relax.

August Writing ~ Jellyfish Jolts #AugustWriting

1

Once again, Ed revised the long insurance policy

Specifically prepared for overly cautious Miss Molly

She finally approved it and was ready to sign

Ending these revisions topping out at Seventy-Nine

See, Molly feared getting hurt in all different ways

And wanted to be sure all her medical bills would get paid

She worried about meteors falling down from above

Thought of her fingers being swollen from ill-fitting gloves

Afraid of shag carpeting entangling her toes

She was also quite nervous of bees flying right up her nose

Paragraph sixty dealt with her choking on skinless grapes

Another section covered her being hugged by a wild ape

Specifically outlined was a part about Jellyfish jolts

Subsection eighty dealt with just plain ‘ole lightning bolts

Ed watched her sign thinking he was finally done with Miss Molly

Then she got a paper cut which wasn’t part of that long insurance policy

August Writing ~ Wifely #AugustWriting

5

A selection of names spewed daily on her

His modus operandi delivered with slurs

She had her young heart captured my him

Promises shoveled convinced her to give in

A matrimonial trap sprung on this beauty

Pleasing the unpleasant as her commanded duty

All essence of her being forced to be hidden

Behaving only by his rules forcefully given

A spark of survival seeks escape from within

The scream of her strength reclaiming her skin

A rediscovery of herself now no longer treading lightly

She will no more be confined to his warped form of wifely

August Writing ~The first of its kind #AugustWriting

3

A spark ignites synaptic threads

That bulb of a thought floats above heads

Conceptual spirit launches a drive

Incentives to make dreams come alive

Pieces are measured for first fabrication

Failings induce relenting frustration

The drawing board awaits that eventual return

Determination fueling  midnight oil’s burn

Futility in attempts await in going forward

Expectations for success are rapidly lowered

Exit the stream where all ideas stop

An alternate variable picked outside the box

Hopes elevated in attempting yet another birth

Another failure would be synonymous with self worth

At last, a success this thing born from inventive minds

A construction of spirit, the first of its kind

#100WW ~ Time out for Billy

5

It was a glorious day to be an eight year old. The skies were clear and the playground was surprisingly empty. Unfortunately, Billy Carrigan was currently being punished by being an observer and not allowed to play. His recent behavior had pushed his parents to take extreme measures beyond traditional disciplinary methods. The process surprisingly didn’t take long, once they spoke the spell. It was a mere switching of bodies between Billy and his paralyzed Uncle Stan. A glorious day indeed as Stan ran around for the time he had left inhabiting this body, as Billy sat in his wheelchair confined.

FOWC with Fandango ~ Bite the big apple #FOWC

Living in Manhattan was always a dream for Eric Payne. He grew up in a small Pennsylvania town and often would dream of some day living in the city ‘that never sleeps’.  It took him some time, saving up every penny and a sharp focus on a goal that finally was realized.  He looked out of his apartment window,  joyfully listening to the rushing sounds of the city.  The hustle of hundreds as they scurried by below him. Taxis beeping as they raced by his building. This constant motion of life intoxicated Eric and overwhelmed his rural background. He felt the adrenaline flow rapidly through his veins as he soaked in his new life here, his dream fulfilled.

“Hey Buddy, whatcha doing?”

It was Eric’s new roommate, Chris. They had found each other through the ‘roommate wanted’ ads in the Village Voice. Eric turned away from the window.

“Just enjoying the life of the city.  I think its just..incredible”

Chris shrugged and sat down on the couch.

“I guess. It means nothing to me. When you’ve lived in the city your whole life, its just kinda of nothing”.

Eric stood there, disappointed in Chris. Maybe he couldn’t appreciate this having “eaten the big apple” his whole life. This was a shame, Eric thought. He looked back out the window again, his mouth watering with anticipation.

“Why don’t you go out then? Go live a little of that exciting city life.” Chris smugly said, then chuckled. He was completely unaware that Eric was now standing behind him.

“Hey, that’s a good idea!”  Eric exclaimed. “I gotta eat some dinner first”.

“Don’t touch my leftover Chinese food in the fridge. I’m saving that-

Chris’s head was suddenly jerked over the back of the couch. His hair held tightly by Eric as he looked up into his now red eyes.  The new couch that Chris  brought with him from his old apartment, now had his blood splattered across its cushions.  Eric had chomped down on Chris’s neck.  He sucked out as much as he wanted in satifysing his hunger, leaving Chris sitting up now dead.

“It really is just incredible to finally be here”  Eric thought as he returned back to look out the window.  “This city is filled with just so much…life”.
